About the work: A predominant theme of my work is an exploration of the surface and its transposition into a constantly evolving visual language. I am also interested in how surfaces can simultaneously seduce and repel, this duplicity creating a visual and physical tension. The fold, the drape and the mirror are surface devices I often use to create layers of image and subterfuge, they have mythological implications for me that work on a conceptual as well as optical level. The doubling of imagery and mirroring is an oft repeated theme in my work and can be seen as an expression of contemporary myth making. I see these reflections in my work as transformations employed to discuss contemporary norms in much the same way as traditional characters and genres do.
