About the work: The work is small study for a new series of paintings titled Fragile Handle With Care which explore at the removal of belongings and artefacts from human migration on the precarious routes traversed by so many over recent years. The title is a word play on the universal instruction when handling and moving objects, an instruction bound by connection, but devoid of any humanity.

Bio: Athier Mousawi (b. London, 1982) studied his MA at Central Saint Martins, London, before moving to Paris in 2010 to pursue painting at the Cité Internationale des Arts. Son of Iraqi sculptor Maysaloun Faraj and architect Ali Mousawi, his work blends structure with expressive color and mark-making. Drawing from European Modernism and contemporary Iraqi art, Mousawi’s recent works embrace uncertainty, allowing space to permeate his compositions. His art reflects a journey of balance between form and fluidity. He has exhibited in numerous solo and group shows in Europe and the Middle East, gaining recognition for his bombastic compositions and distinctive style.
